Buyer Position at Vein of Gold 

Vein of Gold is an AAPI and woman-owned, independent consignment shop in North Portland with an eye for exceptional fashion and excellent customer service. We're seeking a buyer who shares our passion for sustainable and independent designers to join our close-knit team.

About the Role: As one of our buyers, you'll help shape our carefully curated collection and determine relevant pricing, while being an integral part of our daily operations. We prioritize creating a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone who walks through our doors. This position blends fashion expertise with attentive customer service in our intimate boutique setting.

 

Schedule:

2-3 shifts per week

Weekend availability required

Flexibility for additional shift coverage

 

What You'll Be Doing: 

Selecting distinctive and relevant pieces for our physical shop and online store

Researching and pricing items carefully

Processing and managing inventory: intake, sorting, steaming, organizing, etc

Clearly communicating with clients in person, over email, phone and social media

Merchandising our space as needed

Staging and taking consistent product photos 

Working and communicating with our team to provide exceptional customer service: engaging with all clients, managing fitting rooms, putting together outfits for clients, ringing up sales, etc.

Executing daily shop operations, including but not limited to: opening and closing the store, handling cash and credit cards transactions, cleaning (vacuuming, dusting, etc.)

 

Essential Qualifications:

Solid knowledge of fashion brands (independent, sustainable, international, vintage)

Discerning eye for quality craftsmanship and materials

Minimum 2 years of retail or hospitality experience

Proven ability to master various software systems

Strong problem-solving skills

Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods

Natural talent for multitasking in a dynamic environment

Excellence in hospitality and customer service 

Strong communicator both in person and through email/social media

Genuine interest in research and continuous learning

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to also work independently

Ability to take high-quality product photos using iPhone

Adaptability to the evolving needs of a small business

 

Valuable Extras:

Experience with SimpleConsign, Shopify, Instagram, online resale platforms

Background as a buyer in consignment or resale

Visual merchandising expertise

 

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting wage: $18-$19/hour, depending on experience

After 90-day trial period: matching IRA, PTO accrual
